Kelli Dunham’s Good Ol’ Fashioned Queer Comedy Revival Show at Charis

Ex–nun, nerd, comic: Kelli Dunham’s Good Ol’ Fashioned Queer Comedy Revival Show is lively one person storytelling comedy show that promises to answer all of life’s important questions:

What is butch butt?
Why were there so many failed tubal ligations the year Kelli was born?
Is it okay to call your mom for the sole purpose of obtaining comedy material?
What does being over 40 have to do with dead rabbits and the butch ego?
How many library books can one person take on vacation anyway?

Thursday April 26 at 7.30

Charis Books

1189 Euclid Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30307
Tickets $10 at the door, although it’d help us out a heap if you can let us know you are coming on facebook.

Northampton!

So, strangely enough, I have never done a town gig in Northampton although I’ve performed at Smith millions of times. Well not, millions but a bunch.

However, I’m going to be doing a humor/healing/self care workshop at the 3rd Annual Five College Queer Sexuality & Gender Conference on March 31! (It will be great fun and because I’m doing an interactive workshop at 10 am there will be some very special prizes, surprise prizes for those who attend) so the night before I’ll be hitting Northampton with Why Is the Fat One Always Angry!

7 bucks 21 plus; 12 bucks 18-21. All tickets at the door.
Kelli Dunham is a genderqueer/queer/lesbian (depending on the day) Brooklyn based ex-nun nerdcomic; a Wisconsin farmboi transplant who juxtaposes midwestern friendliness with New York attitude in a way that has been described as both “horrifying” and “hilarious.”

In “Why Is The Fat One Always Angry” (her sixth one person show and her soon to be released third comedy CD) she continues on her quest to make comedy where slam poetry dares not tread. The show will address the important questions of our time, such as:

Why were there so many failed tubal ligations the year Kelli was born?
Is it okay to call your mom for the sole purpose of obtaining comedy material?
Is that a grown woman or a teenage boy?
What does being over 40 have to do with dead rabbits and the butch ego?
How many library books can one person take on vacation anyway?

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT WHY IS THE FAT ONE ALWAYS ANGRY

“Kelli Dunham’s new show ‘Why Is the Fat One Always Angry,’ takes you into dark places and makes you laugh at them. It is whip-smart comedy at its best.”
- Mamone, Riot Grrl Ink

“[In Kelli Dunham's new show] The fat one is not always angry…she’s also funny, sweet, smart, and heartbreaking. We laughed, we cried, we did not punch dolphins. ”
- Kathleen Warnock, Drunken! Careening! Writers (curator)

“More than ever, Why Is the Fat One Always Angry reveals Kelli’s ability to mix nonchalant shock with perfectly timed candor. Part storytelling, part therapy, part cultural commentary, and always hilarious, Kelli manages to be both a true personality and someone you’re forever rooting for. And if you ask nicely she might even make you cookies.”
- Autumn Whitefield-Madrano , The Beheld: Beauty and What It Means

“Kelli Dunham is the lesbian Lewis C.K. Brutally honest and devastatingly hilarious.”
- Dale Sorenson, SuperEgo Comedy

“There needs to be a word that defines the odd space Kelli has found where grief turns into belly shaking laugh out loud comedy material.”
- John Paul Gor, DLM

Do you live in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee or South Carolina?

I can be headed your way…if you help make it happen!

I live in Brooklyn now, but I grew up in rural Wisconsin where I knew (as they say) a whole lot of steers and very few queers. I’m spending some time this year performing in areas that aren’t always able to access LGBT entertainment, including the Mid-South (April 24-May 10). I’m also planning a mid-west tour in October, and will be posting dates and states for that later this month. Me in my bevin party outfit

Do you want to host me in your area? All you need is a space (your living room will probably work the best, although if you have a barn, shed, or backyard that might work too) , friends or ways to reach out to other LGBT people and knowledge of where the nearest Greyhound Station is.

I’ll offer each house concert (or barn concert or tent concert or…) like an old fashioned revival. I’ll perform, you pass the hat so I can get to the next town. We can negotiate the host keeping part of the collection to cover expenses so you know you won’t be out anything. I’ll need a place to crash and it’d be awesome if you’d feed me as well but I am the world’s least picky eater. If you want to show me around so I can see what’s awesome about where you live, that’s great too, but that’s certainly not a requirement.

Oh and hey– if we’ve got time and you’d like me to do my Nuts and Bolts of Queer Health Self Advocacy workshop– let’s make that happen as well.

Laughter + building community = super sexy!

Let’s get this party started. Email me at kellidunham@gmail.com with your location and three dates that will work for you (April 24-May 10). Once we get the general details hammered out, I’ll email you a promo kit that includes everything you need to know about hosting a comedy concert. Want to speed this process up? Just call me at 215.964.1963. If I’m not able to pick up, I’ll return your call within 12 hours, promise.
